To burn a few calories and thereby avoid putting on weight, now that I can’t do much sports anymore, I sometimes get out of the train two stops away from the office and walk the rest of the way, more or less 40 minutes. An added advantage in autumn is that I can catch on camera the first rays of daylight as they interact with the Brussels cityscape, some of which looks quite different from what one would expect in a city during rush hour.
Exiting the Etterbeek station I turn right into Boulevard General Jacques. You can see the Université Libre de Bruxelles / Vrije Universiteit Brussel, on the right of the picture below.
Here’s the late autumn early morning glory of the Parc du Cinquantenaire, close to the European quarter in Brussels:
Commuting need not be a nightmare of traffic!
Wow, this is really beautiful!
And it looks like you have the whole park for yourself.

I stayed in Brussels for two weeks last summer (in Koekelberg) and I was indeed shocked by the traffic jams. Because of them, walking was sometimes faster than taking the bus.
